01 October 2026
Little River Casino Resort, located in Manistee, Michigan, is a key player in the region's gaming and entertainment landscape. As Manistee's gaming scene gains attention, the casino, along with complementary businesses and development projects, is reshaping the town's tourism and cultural identity.
Little River Casino Resort as the Region's Main Gaming and Entertainment Anchor
Opened in 1999, Little River Casino Resort has long been Manistee's primary destination for gaming and live entertainment. The resort, managed by the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, offers a wide array of gaming options, including slots, video gaming, live table games, and an exclusive high-limit room. According to the resort, there are over 1,100 slot and video poker machines and dozens of table games available.
The resort's appeal extends beyond gaming, however. It hosts a regular calendar of bands, singers, tours, comedians, and special performances, making it a top entertainment destination in the area. Furthermore, the casino's online gaming and sports betting services, provided by Rush Street Interactive, have expanded its reach beyond the physical location.
The Resort's Scale, Location, and Offerings
Situated at the corner of US-31 and M-22 in Manistee, the casino enjoys a strategic location with easy access for both local residents and tourists. Its multiple gaming and entertainment options cater to a wide audience.
The resort's nonsmoking gaming area is a particularly popular feature, offering a comfortable environment for those who prefer to avoid smoke. The high-limit room provides a more exclusive gaming experience for high rollers. Meanwhile, the variety of table games and slot machines ensures that there's something for every type of gambler.
Online Gaming and Sports Betting: Extending the Casino's Reach
In an increasingly digital age, Little River Casino Resort has expanded into the realm of online gaming and sports betting. By partnering with Rush Street Interactive, the casino has been able to attract a new demographic of players who prefer the convenience of online platforms. Recent figures show that the resort's online gaming and sports betting services are off to a strong start, contributing to its overall revenue growth.
As the legal landscape surrounding online gaming continues to evolve, Little River Casino Resort's digital offerings position it well to capitalize on this growing market. The integration of online gaming and sports betting also enhances the resort's brand image, portraying it as a modern and forward-thinking establishment.
Downtown Gaming Scene: Backstage Hobbies & Games
While Little River Casino Resort dominates the larger-scale gaming scene, a smaller but equally important player in Manistee's gaming culture is Backstage Hobbies & Games. Located in downtown Manistee, this retail destination specializes in tabletop games, video games, collectibles, trading card games, board games, and classic video game consoles.

Backstage Hobbies & Games serves as a community hub for gamers and hobbyists, offering a space for enthusiasts to connect, discover new games, and engage in friendly competition. This store not only enriches Manistee's gaming scene but also fosters a sense of community among local gamers, contributing to the town's overall cultural vibrancy.
Wider Manistee Development Push
Little River Casino Resort is not the only development transforming Manistee's tourism and gaming landscape. The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians' $91 million Spirit of the Woods Manistee Gateway Project aims to add significant new attractions to the town. The project includes a parking deck, townhouses, apartments, condominiums, a heritage venue, a condo-hotel, restaurant, rooftop bar, and conference space.
Additionally, the broader Gateway Project plan includes a day care center and an indoor recreation center on Frost Road, expanding its appeal to families and sports enthusiasts. These developments are part of a broader strategy by Little River Holdings to add lodging, entertainment, housing, and community amenities around the casino area, making Manistee even more attractive to tourists and residents alike.
Why Manistee is Drawing More Attention
Manistee's gaming scene is drawing increased attention for several reasons. The presence of Little River Casino Resort, offering a wide array of gaming and entertainment options, has always been a significant draw. However, the addition of online gaming and sports betting services has expanded its reach and modernized its image.
The development of the Gateway Project, along with other related hotel and housing plans, is adding a new level of sophistication and variety to Manistee's tourism offerings. These projects, combined with the existing attractions, are positioning Manistee as a destination for both gaming and cultural experiences.
Moreover, the vibrant gaming culture in downtown Manistee, exemplified by stores like Backstage Hobbies & Games, adds a unique local flavor to the town's gaming scene. This combination of large-scale, high-end resorts and smaller, community-focused gaming outlets is creating a well-rounded gaming scene in Manistee.
As the Gateway Project and related developments move forward, alongside the ongoing success and expansion of Little River Casino Resort, Manistee is set to become a significant player in both the gaming and tourism industries in Northern Michigan. With a focus on modern amenities, community engagement, and a diverse range of gaming options, Manistee is indeed a rising star in the gaming world.
